City Register's E-Recording - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

E-recording is the electronic submission of documents to the New York City Register’s Office. Customers have been able to submit their documents electronically since July 2013. To record your documents electronically, visit www.nyc.gov/acris.

All recordable documents that you submit to the City Register’s Office can be e-recorded using the Automated City Register Information System (ACRIS).

  • E-recording is convenient, quick, secure, and eco-friendly.
  • You retain control of your original documents throughout the process.
  • You receive instant email confirmation that your documents have been recorded, along with a recording and endorsement cover page with the city register stamp and file number.
  • There is no activation fee required.
  • If your documents are rejected, you receive instant email notification outlining the reason(s) for the rejection.
  • Electronic submission improves the timeliness of transfer tax return filing and recording by reducing initial submission and re-submission times.
  • While you can only record documents in person during normal business hours, you can submit your documents electronically at any time, day or night.
  1. From the ACRIS main menu, click “Create Tax Form / Create Cover Page.”
  2. If you have not already done so, click the” Create an Account” button to create an NYC.ID account.
  3. Log in to ACRIS with your NYC.ID account.
  4. Create an ACRIS profile.
  5. Click the “Register for E-submission” button.
  6. Complete the online “Registered Submitter Registration Agreement and Enrollment for E-Recording” form when it opens in a new window.

The approval process takes one to two business days.
