Many New Yorkers Should Limit Activities

The number of new COVID-19 cases in NYC has been rising rapidly and is now at a level we have not seen since April.

People with underlying health conditions, as well as those who live or care for such people, should now take increased precautions.

  • Avoid public spaces and gatherings and wear a face covering at all times, indoors and outdoors.
  • Do not leave home, except for work, school or essential activities, including medical care, COVID-19 testing or to go to the grocery store or pharmacy.
  • If you feel sick do not leave your home, except for a COVID-19 test or other essential medical care.

This advisory applies to a wide range of New Yorkers, such as people older than 65 and people with underlying conditions, including smoking, type-2 diabetes and obesity, among others. It also applies to those who live with or care for these people.

Find out if you or someone you know is at a high risk for severe illness and should follow these increased precautions.

There is increasing transmission of COVID-19 in New York City and widespread transmission across the United States and in many other countries.

Getting Together Safely

In addition to following our general COVID-19 prevention guidance, stay cautious when you meet up with friends. Avoid indoor activities and stay away from big groups by sticking to a core group of friends and family — your pandemic "social bubble."

Here are some more tips to help you stay safe as you move about the city.

When you travel:

  • Traveling right now puts you, your family and your community at risk of getting sick and spreading the virus to other people. The safest option is to not travel if you can avoid it.
  • If you must travel, plan ahead, take precautions and be prepared to quarantine when you return.

When you celebrate the holidays:

  • Do not travel, gather in groups, or host or attend a holiday party. Only celebrate with household members in person.
  • Enjoy safer holiday activities, such as virtual parties, baking cookies and outdoor gatherings.

When you go to the gym:

  • Wear a face covering that covers your nose and mouth at all times. Bandanas, buffs and gaiters are not acceptable face coverings while at the gym.
  • Refrain from socializing. Keep at least 6 feet away from other gym-goers.

When you eat out:

  • Do not wait. Make a reservation, check out the menu online and do whatever else you can to avoid long wait times before you get a table and order.
  • Keep your face covering on at all times when you are not eating and drinking.

When you shop:

  • Use hand sanitizer when entering the store, after touching products and after leaving the store.
  • Only touch products you intend to buy, and use contactless payment methods whenever possible.

Only leave for essential medical care or other essential errands.

Wash your hands often with soap and water. Use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.

You can be contagious without symptoms. Protect those around you by wearing a face covering.

Get Tested
All New Yorkers should get a COVID-19 virus (diagnostic) test, whether or not they have symptoms or are at increased risk. Tests are free. Look for a testing site near you.

Get Medical Care

Trò chơi xổ số Việt NamDo not delay getting the medical care you need. Contact your provider quickly about any new symptoms you are feeling, whether or not you think they may be related to COVID-19.

You should also go to routine check-ups and screenings, and get scheduled vaccinations for you and your children. If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 911.
