Description

When I came to Canada, I brought just a few things with me, one of which was this tea pot. I bought it more than twenty years ago (in 1989) with the money my grandmother gave me to do so. I chose the color blue, a color I associate with the sky and hope. I used it to prepare tea while traveling through the Mauritanian dessert when waiting for water, after planting trees, or when meeting guests. For Mauritanians and anyone living in the desert, tea is the second most important item after water. Sitting down and making good tea creates an intimate atmosphere in which people will tell you everything. This teapot reminds me that life can be very simple in the desert life, but also in a family, when for example everyone eats from the same bowl. I opened 'La Khaima', my restaurant in Montreal, on the basis of this teapot. All you need is a teapot that allows you to make good tea. When first establishing the restaurant a few years ago, I served one daily meal as it is common in Mauritania, whereas today we have a few meals to choose from.
